Bethel Baptist, Hope’s predecessor, was founded in Platt Park in the late nineteenth century. It met on the same corner—Logan Street and Colorado Avenue—that we meet now, and it was regarded as a stalwart in the community. It outgrew its small facility, and in the 1950s, Bethel Baptist built the beautiful brick building you see today. In the mid-1990s, a non-denominational community church, pastored by neighborhood resident Dean Wertz, started meeting on-site. In 1999, the two churches merged, Dean became the lead pastor, and the church became Hope Community Church to clearly declare its intention of providing hope in and around Platt Park and the greater Denver area. We are honored that Bethel’s rich history of service and love to this community is a part of our ongoing legacy.
