As the Office & Communications Coordinator, Nicole manages Hope’s website, writes the twice monthly e-newsletter, and provides administrative support for church leadership. She also has the privilege of working with individuals at Hope to create a digital story about their faith or other significant life experience.

Nicole received a BA in Philosophy from Wheaton College and a Masters in Communications from the University of Denver. She lives in the Denver neighborhood of Harvey Park with her husband, daughter, and two stepsons. Nicole is happiest when reading a good book, engaged in deep conversation, or savoring one of the many culinary delicacies cooked up by her husband.

Anna McMichael

As the Director of Community Life, Anna brings leadership to the Children’s Ministry, Prayer Ministry, Congregational Care, and Community Groups. In addition to her role as Director, she also serves as an Inner Healing Prayer Facilitator for the Hope Prayer Ministry. Anna’s professional background is in Early Childhood Education and she has a Masters Degree in Nonprofit Management.

Anna and her husband, Kevin, live in the Platt Park neighborhood and love being part of the Hope community. Anna enjoys reading, journaling, making up recipes, and the occasional video game marathon with her husband. In August of 2013 God blessed them with a daughter, Gracelyn!

Pastor Jay Oertli

Pastor Jay Oertli brings years of pastoral experience to his position at Hope Community Church.  In addition to serving as Pastor for Congregational Care, he also leads the Missions Team.  Jay has been a pastor for 38 years, serving both as a senior pastor and as an associate.  He started out in the business world, earning an MBA in Accounting from the University of Denver, and then became a pastor after earning a Masters of Divinity from Denver Seminary.  Jay retired as an Army National Guard chaplain and now serves part-time as a chaplain to six businesses.

Jay and his wife Marti have two children, Susie and Danny, who are both actively involved in Christian ministry with their spouses and children.  Jay loves fly fishing, reading, and sports.

Jed Risser

Facilities Director

Jed puts his construction background and passion to work in managing the maintenance and upkeep of the entire Hope Facility.  He coordinates the seasonal outdoor grounds maintenance and the interior/exterior building structure maintenance.

Originally from the state of Pennsylvania, Jed moved to Colorado with a friend. The “temporary” adventure turned out to be a much bigger one than he bargained for, after Jed met a beautiful woman named Carole Ann. They are now happily married and recently welcomed their daughter Rhea into the world. When not involved in a construction-related project, Jed enjoys escaping to the mountains with his family.

Arik Stewart

Youth & Business Pastor

As Hope’s Youth Pastor, Arik facilitates experiences designed for middle school and high school students to engage with one another, their neighbors, and God at a deeper level. He and his volunteers are passionate about seeing students grow in spiritual understanding and application. As Hope’s Business Pastor, Arik accounts for and reports the financial standing of the church. He is also an apprentice preacher.

Arik grew up in a suburb of Denver and attended Hope Community Church with his family for over a decade. He now attends the University of Denver, finishing a degree in International Business. Arik thrives on adventure, especially in world missions, and actively seeks creativity in all its forms. He is an aspiring artist, photographer, and novelist.

Jamie Walker

As the Worship Director, Jamie facilitates worship alongside the worship band during the Sunday morning service. She has been a part of the worship team at Hope for over 7 years, taught herself piano during her time as a member of the team, and took on the leadership of the worship ministry in June of 2014.

Jamie is a Colorado native who received her Bachelor’s in Sports Information and Communication from Ithaca College, in Ithaca, NY. Music has been a huge part of Jamie’s life since childhood, and over the years she has performed in musicals, comedy improv, acapella groups, gospel choirs, worship teams and a variety of choirs.  She is also an avid student of the arts, currently refining her craft in oil painting when she is not caring for her 3 amazing school age children and supportive husband. When she is not doing music and art, Jamie enjoys running and going to the mountains.

As Lead Pastor for Hope Community Church, Pastor Dean Wertz seeks to follow Jesus in all of life and encourage others to do the same. Dean learned about and was amazed by Jesus was when he was 12 years old. Soon after, he was compelled to become a lifelong learner and follower of Jesus. After high school, Dean moved to Chicago where he attended and received a BA in Biblical Theology from Moody Bible Institute. After seeing God’s heart for people of all nations during a mission trip to the Congo, he moved to Denver where he graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Denver Seminary. 

Dean and his wife Rebecca live in Platt Park with their two children, Maggie (17) and James (13). The Wertz’s have been with Hope since it was formed in 1999. Dean enjoys fishing, rough carpentry and basketball – especially when he can do these things with his family!

Cleaning, Decorating, and Events Coordinator

Rebecca has the privilege — and challenge — of keeping this big old historic church building looking good. She oversees the cleaning, decorating, and renovations of the church, and also oversees all events that are hosted at Hope. Naturally artistic, Rebecca loves painting and calligraphy. Her skills have been employed all around the church property, where you’ll find carefully crafted signs and hand-painted art.

The daughter of missionaries, Rebecca was born and raised in Taiwan. She moved to Colorado when she was 15, and has been part of Hope since its beginning in 1999. Aside from painting, one of her favorite things to do is go for long hikes in the foothills. She and her husband Dean live in Platt Park with their two children, Maggie and James.

 

Dana Yost

Prayer Ministry Director

As the Director of Prayer Ministry, Dana meets regularly with individuals to facilitate inner healing prayer, and is also involved in the mentoring, training, and supervising of new prayer facilitators. She has a BA in Social Science & Education and an Associates Degree in Biblical Studies. Dana taught Junior and Senior High School for 5 years, including 2 years at the Teen Challenge Mountain Home in Buffalo Creek, Colorado. For 8 years, she served on the mission field in Guatemala, where she taught weekly Bible classes, counseled at a Christian drug and alcohol rehab center, and taught Finding Freedom seminars.

A Denver native, Dana has enjoyed being back in the Denver area since joining the staff at Hope in 2001. Her hobbies include boogie boarding, hiking, and par 3 golf.
