Who We Are

Join us Sunday at 9 a.m. for in-person worship. At this time, attendance requires registration. That information as well as our livestream service and recordings are available here. When at Hope’s Sunday service, expect to see babies, grandparents, and everyone in between. We are an intergenerational community and believe it is God’s heart to provide hope within relationships that bridge decades and generations. Often, God can use unexpected relationships and people to speak most clearly in our lives – people who aren’t very much like us, or are more experienced and wiser than us, or little people who have a much simpler way of looking at things. We are truly the family of God.

We make our homes throughout the metro area, with some coming from Golden, Parker, and Conifer. But about half of us are concentrated in the neighborhoods of Platt Park and Harvard Gulch, and 80% of us live in the North-South corridor bordering the Platte River on the west and Colorado Boulevard on the east, extending from Littleton to downtown Denver.

History

Bethel Baptist, Hope’s predecessor, was founded in Platt Park in the late nineteenth century. It met on the same corner—Logan Street and Colorado Avenue—that we meet now, and it was regarded as a stalwart in the community. It outgrew its small facility, and in the 1950s, Bethel Baptist built the beautiful brick building you see today. In the mid-1990s, a non-denominational community church, pastored by neighborhood resident Dean Wertz, started meeting on-site. In 1999, the two churches merged, Dean became the lead pastor, and the church became Hope Community Church to clearly declare its intention of providing hope in and around Platt Park and the greater Denver area. We are honored that Bethel’s rich history of service and love to this community is a part of our ongoing legacy.
