Worship Leader Highlight
Joel Noble & Angelbotics | Did you know?
If you visit the staff page of Hope’s website, you will read the following bio for Joel Noble: Joel enjoys serving as the Worship Leader at Hope Church, where he has been part of the music team for several years. He has over three decades of experience in playing the guitar and singing, with music being an integral part of his life’s journey. His passion for a diverse range of musical genres enriches our worship sessions.
However, did you know that Joel also coaches Angelbotics, a competitive robotics club he founded in 2003 at East High School where he teaches Engineering? Angelbotics is intended to help students become fantastic young adults. The robots are the vehicle used to make that happen. Technical skills like programming or machining happen, but more importantly they learn to plan, communicate, and work together with people of different skills and ages. The program also focuses heavily on community service work; Service Angels are students and adults who use their skills to make sure other teams have the resources they need to play at their best.
Joel explained his personal ministry in this way, “God gives many of us a ‘mission field”‘and this has been mine. The students I’ve worked with for 21 years in robotics have many needs and our team has become like a family for many of them. As they grow up and move on, I’ve seen the difference this experience has made in their lives and paths and it’s been awesome.”
According to Joel, there are 50 students across two teams, Team 1339 and Team 9586. 9586 is in their first year (the team is a “rookie”) and all the students are in their first years doing robotics (the team was intended for “rookies”, ie, Junior Varsity). BOTH teams recently won awards that qualify them for the world championship in Houston this week! 1339 has been to champs previously in 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020 (it was canceled due to covid), 2022, and 2023. This year 1339 won both Colorado state and Utah state tournaments. This was their third year in a row winning Colorado.
Hope’s own Reuben Kaskubar is a member of the rookie team, 9586, and is traveling to the championship since his team qualified with the Rookie All Star award. He is a programmer and part of the “drive team,” the students who actually drive the robot on the field.
We look forward to hearing the success stories that come from this week’s competition! Stay tuned for a report in an upcoming Sunday Service!
