MOPS is an international organization designed to help mothers of preschoolers during a challenging and often isolating season of life. When children are young, their needs are relentless, and it can be a draining and exhausting task just trying to keep up with them. Amy Thomas, the MOPS Coordinator at Hope, has a heart for moms and uses this ministry as a way to reach out to them and show them God’s love. MOPS has been meeting at Hope twice monthly for the third year in a row, and is successfully reaching out to young moms in the area.
Perhaps the best part about MOPS at Hope is that it’s a safe place for moms to rest, be themselves, and know that they are cared for. It’s easy to bond with others who know exactly what you’re going through, and the strong sense of community helps lift the burdens that are common during this season of life.
The content of the meetings changes each time, so there is always something for everyone. Great food and hot coffee are served at the beginning, and moms have a chance to chat and enjoy a meal together after checking their kids into the nursery. (Some moms prefer to keep their kids with them—or rather, their kids prefer to stay with them—and that’s fine too!) Some days an outside speaker will come to talk about a specific topic, while other days the group will watch a MOPS DVD or do a project together. There are crafts, useful tips, and lots of time for conversation with women from Hope and from throughout the neighborhood.
If you know anyone who could benefit from MOPS, please invite them to join! People are welcome to drop in any time. Meetings take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 9:30 – 11:30am. Quality childcare is provided. You can find out more about MOPS on their website, or you can also direct a friend to the MOPS link on Hope’s website.
