God’s vision is to see people from all ethnicities glorify Him and for His people to join Him in this central venture. Yet, sometimes we all struggle to embrace the apparent sacrifice required to pursue God’s plan for global glory. How does God respond when His people reject His vision? In Jonah chapter 1, we discover that God pursues His people to train us to unite with Him in His mission for the world.

Jonah is a great story including a great city, a great tempest, a great fish, a great revival and a great closing question. Yet, Jonah is ultimately about a great God with an exciting global vision. In Psalm 46:10b He describes His vision this way, “I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” So, let’s not waste our lives or our coming together as a church running from God’s call or dabbling in secondary pursuits. Whether He wants us to go, pray, give, support, send, mobilize and/or encourage, let’s join Him in His chief glorious, global and great endeavor!
We often put our hope in things that crumble. It is easy to do in our day. But there is a hope that lasts, that will culminate in Christ’s second coming. What did this hope look like for believers in his generation, and what does that hope look like today? And are you truly ready for Jesus to come again?
Jesus has given the vision, and vision requires mission. We cannot only see it but must do it. What is your mission? And are you praying for the lost? Options for mission include prayer, support, and going. How are you living in regard to these?
The resurrected Jesus has been given all authority. What is this authority and what does it look like? Jesus strategically linked His cause for the disciples with His authority. What would His authority look like in the life of a Jesus-Follower and what difference would it make?
We believe disciples follow Jesus, are changed by Jesus, and join Jesus in His mission of love. But when we are working in His mission, we often find that loving God and loving one another is easier than loving our neighbors, especially when fishing for people. Perceived failure in sharing the gospel well, both past and present, can be discouraging, but we trust that Jesus is not done with us. Just like Peter, we trust that the more we follow Jesus, the more He will change us to become effective fishers of people, giving us immense purpose and hope.
Many people we know are without hope in their lives. Jesus actually gave a prayer request that more “laborers” would be sent to them. Could we be the answer to Jesus’ prayer request for more laborers? If we were, what would that look like?
God is looking for true soldiers not chocolate soldiers. Which one does your life look like? Hear about what it looks like to join God’s mission and obey Jesus as a true soldier would!
Why does Jesus call us to follow Him and abide in Him? Some people assume we should follow Jesus so we can be with God when we die. While this is a significant part of a disciple’s hope, Jesus has a vision for our days between when we become His disciples and when we breath our last breath. He summons us to follow Him in order to give us a purpose. The reason He calls us to follow and abide is so He can work in and through us as we join Him on His mission to love and serve our hurting world (i.e. become “fishers of men”). He empowers all of His disciples to pray, to serve and to testify wherever we go so that His kingdom will come on earth as it is in heaven. Now that’s discipleship. That’s living!
Millions of people don’t know the good news that Jesus is King with all authority over the universe who loves them, died for them, rose to live with them, has a purpose for them and promises a restored future for them and the whole world. Most of these people live on islands and continents far away but some live as refugees right here in Denver. Today we will discover how Paul was brought unexpectedly to the island of Malta in order to show the Maltese people who Jesus is and what His kingdom looks like. We will also meet Ben Sooy who, along with his wife, was unexpectedly brought to Denver to be with and love refugees who would otherwise have been isolated from the knowledge of the love of God. Could it be that part of God’s plan is to direct all Christ-followers unexpectedly to places and people, near and/or far, whom we may have never imagined for the same reason He did this for the Apostle Paul and the Sooys?
