What Type of King are You Looking For? | Luke 19:28-44

How would we cause Jesus to begin to weep (Luke 19:41)? On a very important day in the life of Jesus, He announces to the world that He is the King and Messiah that they are all waiting for. However, Jesus realizes that not everyone wants Him to be the King He came to be, rather they were looking for another type of King who would do what they wanted and make the world into the place they wanted it to be. Just as the crowd that day had a choice to make, we have a choice to make as well…what type of King do we want Jesus to be?

Abram’s Focus on Home | Genesis 11:27-12:9

Have you ever wondered why some people do seemingly bizarre, illogical or even crazy things for God? Abram (later called Abraham) left home and left his family to follow God’s call on his life. As we read in Hebrews 11:10, Abram was focused on a home that was more important to him than anything else and that is why he did what he did.

Jesus, Wonderful Counselor | Isaiah 9:1-7

For the 4th Sunday of Advent, we are continuing our focus on the character of Jesus Christ that was prophesied in Isaiah 9:6.  The final characteristic of the this passage for us to focus on is Wonderful Counselor.  Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor. His advice and plans for us are beyond human explanation. His solutions for our problems may not make sense to us, but when He enacts them our response has to be praise because only He could make something like that happen.

Jesus the Mighty God | Isaiah 9:6-7

As we begin our Advent series called King of Kings. And You. we first focus on one of four attributes of Christ – Mighty God. What does it mean for the baby Jesus that we celebrate at Christmas to be The Mighty God? What are the implications for our world? And what would that mean for each of us individually?

Fruit of the Spirit – Part 2 of 3 | Galatians 5:22-23

God’s Character is perfect and He desires for His life and character to flow out of His Children by having them bear the fruit that looks like, tastes like and smells like Him. As we continue the part of our series on the Fruit of the Spirit, we see the next three fruit of the Spirit that Paul outlines show how those walking with God live in relationship with others – Patience, Kindness and Goodness. These are needed character qualities in our divisive world today.

The Benefits of Being Filled with the Spirit | Ephesians 5:15-21

Paul not only commanded the church in Ephesus to “be filled with the Spirit,” he also gave them a vision of what being filled would look like in the context of the community of believers. He is contrasting what these formerly pagan people would’ve known with what being filled sons and daughters of God would look like. His vision is of a community who expresses a melody from Heaven, thanksgiving to God and mutual submission from the depths of their hearts.
